Tim Röhn is a Global Reporter at Axel Springer and Head of Investigations for WELT, POLITICO Germany and Business Insider Germany. After training at the Axel Springer Academy, he reported for WELT from more than 40 countries with a focus on migration, geopolitics, crime and corruption. His work has also appeared in The New York Times, Der Spiegel and El País.

Beyond reporting, he works as a photographer, has contributed to documentaries — including ARTE’s “The Killing of Daphne Caruana Galizia” — and regularly lectures on investigative techniques. In 2022 he became a senior reporter at WELT and later its investigations editor; in April 2025 he was named a Global Reporter and relocated to New York City.

Twice, Medium Magazin named him among the ‘Top 10 German Reporters of the Year.’

In the course of his reporting around the world, he has published numerous major features and investigations in recent years—primarily in WELT, but also in Der Spiegel, POLITICO, and The New York Times.
Photos
Since 2014, he has taken his own photographs during reporting trips. His images have since appeared in Der Spiegel, WELT, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung. As a partner agency, imago images distributes his work worldwide.
TV
In 2019, he decided to place greater focus on documentary films and TV reports. Since then, his films have been broadcast on ARTE and ZDF, among others.
